EASTER CELEBRATION GUIDE

On Easter Sunday, we will be celebrating the resurrection together in a social distancing kind of way.
Access the online worship, announcements, and weekly teaching as usual.
Then, your household can participate in an activity of prayer and proclamation that He is Risen!
Visit the THIS WEEK page to watch instructional videos about these crafts.

Home Activity

Every household will create 1 cross to hang on their door or porch and 5 prayer rocks using
common household items. You can be as minimalist or creative as you wish. Watch the
provided video if you need to get a better idea of what this might look like. The prayer rock
exercise is included in these instructions.

Procession and Proclamation

Once you have your prayer rocks, take some time as a household on Easter Sunday to deliver
each rock (along with meaningful messages if you wish) to each of the five following locations:

Location #1 The Cross in the Parking Lot of Lakeland 913 NE Colbern Rd

Lakeland will have a cross centered in the parking lot. Bring one of your rocks and place
it around the cross. The rocks should be spaced at least 8-10 feet apart from one
another as if they are spreading out and emanating from the cross. This act will
symbolize our participation in the hope, life, and way of Christ that emanates from the
resurrection. The cross will be beautifully decorated to symbolize the way in which Jesus
conquered death and made what looked like an instrument of death into a symbol of
victory! As you place the rock, declare, “He is Risen Indeed!” Other than this
proclamation, remain in silence while in the parking lot and practice social distancing if
other families are near.

Locations #2 - #5 (Deliver to people’s porches. If the person has a Lakeland Cross on
their door, place it safely near the cross, but not where people walk.)
  1. 1st Responder or Healthcare Worker
  2. Person with same starting letter of your first or last name from the Lakeland Regular
    Attender Group on Lakeland Connect
  3. Person in your neighborhood
  4. Person in one of your small groups or serving teams

Praying in Color Easter Rocks

Suggested Supplies
  • Five medium sized rocks
  • Sharpie markers, Paint markers, Nail Polish, or anything you can find to decorate rocks colorfully.
  • Paint brushes

SETTING UP A TIME AND PLACE
Similar to when we observe Advent, you can create a mood to set this activity as a special time
of prayer. You can do this by playing soft music, having a lit candle on a side table or counter,
and setting out supplies on the table.

This time spent creating art together, decorating the rocks, and thinking of people you love is
all prayer. God is present whether you think of words or focus on how to decorate your rock. All
is prayer. It all belongs.

GET STARTED:
  1. To begin, close your eyes and take three slow, deep breaths in and out. This is a good way to slow down and feel still on the inside.
  2. Think of a word that describes God or a word that describes our relationship with God. Examples include love, hope, peace, friend, comfort, strength, etc. Write or paint that word on your rock.
  3. Add shapes, designs, and color around your word. Ask God to be a part of your prayer time, with or without words. If words come, pray them. If not, enjoy the silence. You might think of a person while you decorate your rock. If you do, picture them in your mind. Think of each mark on the rock as a prayer for them.
  4. Keep decorating the rock until it feels finished. If you are doing this with younger children you can set a timer for 3-5 minutes to provide a time to start and stop.
  5. Take a deep breath or say ‘amen’ when you are done.
