Won by One to Jamaica Story
Won by One to Jamaica’s mission is : To show the love of Jesus Christ by providing opportunities through education, empowerment, discipleship and economic development for Jamaican and American lives to be transformed. Our vision is to inspire a vibrant Harmons Valley where Jamaicans and Americans pursue God’s transformational hope together. Our initiative will focus on the church that WBOTJ started, Grace Community Fellowship. Pastor Paul Blake leads Sunday worship at GCF. Out of this church, children’s and youth ministry programs have grown into weekly meetings led by WBOTJ staff. Men’s and women’s small groups also regularly meet to encourage each other, discuss Scripture, and learn more about living life with Christ. Although there are many places for Harmons residents to attend church, we hope that GCF will become a place for the community to worship together and explore the true, biblical claims of Christ.

Summer College Internship Story
|
Future church ministry leaders usually find their calling in college. Our church wants to capture the next generation of Christian leaders by offering a nine-week full-time internship for several full-time degree-seeking students. The interns’ primary task is high school discipleship. Interns will pour their lives into a handful of students. During the daytime they will learn the full counsel of God in scripture and worship, with focus on New Testament mission and discipleship.

Welcoming the Stranger Story
This initiative aims to welcome the most vulnerable: Immigrants, refugees and asylees. The church is called to protect, welcome and show hospitality to those who have been shunned from their own countries based on a credible threat to their lives. Often, these families must leave their homes suddenly without anything to carry with them and nowhere to go. War, famine, religious or social persecution keeps these families from being able to live safely or live at all. The church is called to intervene. Welcoming the Stranger both helps fund organizations who help refugees where they are in their own displacement as well as assimilate families in the KC area by being a “good neighbor”.

Eastlynn House Story
|
The Eastlynn House is our property connection with our urban core on the East side of Kansas City, Missouri. Located across the street from our inner city ministry partner, The Hope Center. The Hope Center trains neighborhood students to be strong Christian disciples and community leaders. The Eastlynn House is ideally positioned to be a positive presence in the neighborhood. Lakeland’s task is to complete the renovation and continue to own, maintain, and make the home available rent-free as long as it is helpful for The Hope Center. By making the Eastlynn House a positive force in the neighborhood, Lakeland maintains a strong physical presence in on the unresourced East side of the city.

Veronica's Voice Story
|
The mission of Veronica's Voice is to empower women to exit from, prevent entry into, and end all demand for prostitution/sex trafficking through survivor leadership. The heart of Jesus is with the marginalized and oppressed, especially women. God placed the vision for Veronica's Voice in Founder Kristy Child's heart. Through this vision, Veronica's Voice heals and empowers women, while challenging cultural paradigms that leave women so vulnerable in the first place. God created men and women as equals. Veronica's Voice promotes this equality for all women so that they may be strong, safe, and fully participate in our community and ultimately in the Eternal Kingdom of Christ.

913 Colbern Rd
|
The vision of Lakeland Community Church is to build a community of authentic followers of Jesus Christ. Our best tool for accomplishing this ministry is our people, filled with the Spirit and called by God. Our second best is our church building: 913 NE Colbern Road is our home base for ministry. Worship, prayer, small groups, ministry functions, gathering--it all has a home here. With the One Life Financial Challenge we want to continue buying this valuable ministry space and address several needs involving water drainage and run-off to keep our church home in good working order. Before our friends, family, and neighbors get to know the people of our community, they see our home. Let’s put our best foot forward!

Anapra Story
The purpose of the Anapra ministry is to live out the work Jesus describes in Matthew 25, feeding the hungry and clothing the naked, etc. Most families in Anapra struggle to meet the bare necessities for their children and themselves. The Anapra ministry provides a monthly dispense of rice and beans to ensure the hungry are fed. We also provide access to a library/community center that has fresh clean water, clean bathrooms, and 1,000s of books – the wall has a huge quote painted, “YOU BELONG HERE” because our ministry is really about “seeing” our neighbors just across the border, and loving them by providing for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
