DAN WILBURN
Founding Pastor, Teaching Elder
816.554.0929 ext. 102

bACKGROUND
Dan grew up in Kansas City. He was raised in the Southern Baptist church. His Christian ministry formation took place in the parachurch ministry, YoungLife. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Personnel Administration (Organizational Psychology). After working in the marketplace throughout his 20’s he married Laurie and moved to California to complete his Master of Divinity (MDiv’93) at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. They moved back to Lee’s Summit and started Lakeland Community Church. Dan was ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church denomination (EPC ‘95). In 2010 he left the EPC over partisanship and moved his ordination to The Associated Ministerial Order (AMO).

Dan is founding and Senior Pastor at Lakeland. He is charged with making disciples and envisioning the church. Therefore, he leads contemplative retreats; taking retreatants through a multi-year program of spiritual transformation learning how to listen to the voice of the Creator God, fall at the feet of Jesus the Redeemer, abiding in the Spirit of God. He preaches at adult Sunday services the minority of the time (some 22 weeks per year), teaches classes, and formational experiences. Dan provides spiritual direction. Also, he is an Oblate of Conception Abbey (O.S.B.)

Currently, Dan is pursuing his doctorate (Doctorate of Ministry) at Northern Seminary in Lombard, Illinois (Chicago area). His Thesis focuses on transformation of people through the adaptation and application of the desert tradition (Early Christianity) and religious orders within the local Protestant evangelical church.

I love to travel. I think my parents instilled this in me.  My favorite vacation growing up was to Hawaii (a gorgeous state) but the best part was taking my grandparents with us. My grandfather was stationed at Pearl Harbor. Seeing the island through his eyes and hearing stories about his time there and about how things had changed since the war was priceless.

pERSONAL mEMORY
The memory that keeps popping up is the day (and night) we spent stuffing 10,000 mailers to the residents of Lee’s Summit introducing them to Lakeland Community Church and inviting them to our first service, Oct. 13, 1996. We became a bit slap-happy around number 6,459 … Have you heard what’s happening in Lee’s Summit?

Living on the Plaza and driving home late at night with a light snow falling and all the buildings lit up and no traffic … I lived in the most spectacular neighborhood in the metro!
hOBBIES
Absolutely love camping, hiking and biking … and taking others camping, hiking and biking. Other likes: gardening … which I affectionately call “playing in the dirt”; refinishing and repurposing things I find at thrift stores, garage sales and dumpster diving; and traveling … anywhere.

Adam was born and raised in Independence, Missouri, and has lived in the KC area his entire life, except for college experiences (see below) and a couple of 1-year periods living in Tucson, Arizona, and Changsha, China. Adam has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Truman State University, a law degree from the University of Missouri, and a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary. He studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain, the summer before his senior year of undergrad (one of the best experiences he ever had).

Before being called to do vocational ministry, Adam spent some time teaching high school Spanish and as an internal auditor specializing in anti-money laundering at a financial institution.
